AI Advertising for E-commerce Brands

Shoppers increasingly ask assistants for recommendations - “a durable rain jacket under $200”, “gifts for a coffee lover”, “which of these two is better for wide feet”. Here is how e-commerce brands can be part of those answers.
Get your product data clean first
Assistants and shopping surfaces rely on structured product information: title, description, price, availability, attributes, reviews and images. If your product feed and on-page structured data are inconsistent or thin, you will be hard to recommend accurately. Fix the feed before you spend on placements.
Think in shopping scenarios
Group products by the situation a shopper describes: use case, constraint (budget, size, material), occasion, or recipient. Each scenario is a small campaign with its own message and landing page.
Creative that answers the shopper
A strong placement states the product, the one attribute that matches the request, the price, and a clear buy action. “Waterproof to 10k mm, packs to fist size, $180” beats “Shop our premium outerwear collection.”
Send traffic to the product, not the homepage
Match the destination to the request: a specific product page, or a pre-filtered collection for broader scenarios. Include the key attributes above the fold, real reviews, shipping and returns, and a fast add-to-cart.
Measure to contribution margin
Track revenue and, ideally, margin by scenario - not just ROAS on last click. Some scenarios drive discovery that converts later; use a holdout or geo test periodically to check incremental impact.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a product feed for AI advertising?
For most retail scenarios, yes. Structured product data is how assistants and shopping surfaces understand and compare what you sell.
How is this different from Shopping ads?
The shopper's input is a described need rather than a query, so scenario grouping and attribute-led creative matter more than keyword coverage.
What about marketplaces?
If you sell on marketplaces, keep that data clean too - assistants may reference it. Your own site still gives you the most control over the experience.
